OVERVIEW

The REPS Colloquium represents a cornerstone initiative of the RWC 2022-2024, designed not only as a platform for knowledge sharing among Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) but also to highlight the impactful research, extension programs, and professional services spearheaded by the University of the Philippines Diliman REPS.

This colloquium not only fosters collaboration and innovation but also provides an invaluable opportunity to strengthen connections among professionals in diverse fields, promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and sharing best practices. By showcasing the remarkable contributions of REPS, the initiative aims to inspire ongoing development and engagement within the academic community and beyond, ultimately enhancing the excellence and relevance of research and services to address societal needs.


SULONG REPS 2025: Advancing Knowledge, Empowering Communities
Research, Extension, and Professional Staff Contributions to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals

This year’s colloquium celebrates the transformative work of UP Diliman’s Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Through research, outreach, and professional innovation, REPS continue to shape inclusive, knowledge-driven communities across disciplines and sectors.

SUBTHEMES

The colloquium’s parallel sessions will explore three thematic areas aligned with the SDGs:

Inclusive Innovation, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Economic Development

This subtheme highlights research and initiatives that foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth, with a special focus on marginalized communities. It explores ways to create decent work opportunities, strengthen industries, and promote economic empowerment through inclusive, equitable strategies.

Environmental Sustainability, Climate Resilience, and Disaster Preparedness

This subtheme emphasizes research and projects aimed at addressing global environmental challenges, including climate action, ecosystem preservation, and renewable energy. It also explores strategies for enhancing climate resilience in communities, integrating disaster risk reduction, and ensuring sustainable development practices.

Health, Well-being, Social Justice, and Transformative Education

This subtheme brings together research on public health, mental health, nutrition, and wellness promotion, alongside social protection and justice systems aimed at ensuring equitable access to healthcare. It also explores the role of education in fostering community well-being, cultural integrity, and inclusive development, with a focus on transformative educational practices that contribute to social equity and inclusion.

The UP Diliman REPS Welfare Council (RWC) is a representative body committed to advancing the rights, welfare, and professional growth of REPS. It catalyzes institutional transformation, fostering collaboration, equity, and excellence across the university. Through initiatives like the REPS Colloquium, the RWC amplifies REPS voices and showcases their vital contributions to UP’s mission.

JOEL JOSEPH S. MARCIANO JR., PH.D
Keynote Speaker

Si Dr. Marciano ay nagsilbing unang Director General ng Philippine Space Agency mula 2020 hanggang 2025, na may ranggo bilang Kalihim ng Gabinete at Taga-payo ng Pangulo sa mga Usaping Pangkalawakan. Siya ay isang Propesor sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Diliman, kung saan siya ay humawak ng Dado and Maria Banatao Professorial Chair in Engineering, at kamakailan ay hinirang bilang Pangalawang Pangulo para sa Pananaliksik at Inobasyon ng UP System. Natamo niya ang kanyang PhD sa Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications mula sa University of New South Wales, at ginawaran ng honorary doctorate ng Hokkaido University bilang pagkilala sa kanyang natatanging ambag sa edukasyon, pananaliksik, at pandaigdigang ugnayan.

JOY ANN P. SANTOS
2025-2027 REPS Chair Awardee

Si Dr. Joy Ann P. Santos ay University Researcher ng Biological Research and Services Laboratory (BRSL) ng Linangan ng Saliksik sa mga Likas na Agham (Natural Sciences Research Institute/NSRI). Siya ay nagtapos ng PhD (Biology) noonmg 2024 at MS Microbiology noong 2009, parehong sa UP Diliman.

Si Dr. Santos ay iginawad bilang Career Scientist I noong 2023 ng Scientific Career System na pinangangasiwaan ng Scientific Career Council (SCC) at ng DOST. Bilang isang siyentista, patuloy siyang nag-aambag sa pagsulong ng molecular diagnostics sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng mga siyentipikong output tulad ng mga publikasyon, utility models, mga gawaing ekstension at mentoring.

PEPITO T. DIZON
2025-2027 REPS Chair Awardee

Si G. Pepito T. Dizon ay kasalukuyang University Extension Specialist sa UP National Engineering Center at Program Development Associate para sa Organizational Culture and Productivity sa UP Office of the Vice President for Administration. Nagtapos siya ng BA Public Administration (Magna Cum Laude, 2012), Master of Public Administration at Diploma in Industrial Relations (2020) sa UP Diliman. Mayroon siyang mga sertipikasyon sa Human Resource at Learning and Development, at ginawaran ng UP Diliman Dangal at Galing Awards noong 2022. Bilang kanyang adbokasiya, nakapagsanay na siya ng higit sa 1,800 kawani sa mahigit 40 batch ng Completed Staff Work sa buong UP system at sa iba pang sangay ng pamahalaan.

ELVIRA B. LAPUZ
2025-2027 REPS Chair Awardee

Si Bb. Elvira B. Lapuz ang kasalukuyang Tagapamahala ng Aklatan ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Diliman at Senior Lecturer sa UP SLIS. Kamakailan ay nahirang siya na 2025 CONSAL Outstanding Librarian Award (Bronze). Siya ay nagsilbing Pangulo ng Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. o PLAI, ang pambansang professional association ng mga librarians; at patuloy na aktibo sa larangan ng librarianship dito sa Pilipinas at sa Southeast Asia. Noong 2016, si Bb. Lapuz ay napabilang bilang Associate sa IFLA International Leaders Programme (ILP2) at kasalukuyang kasapi sa IFLA Regional Division for Asia and Oceania. Siya ay aktibong nagtataguyod ng Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) bilang kanyang adbokasiya.

Who can participate in the colloquium?

All REPS from UP Diliman—both permanent and contractual—are invited to attend and present.

Is there a registration fee?

No. Participation in the colloquium is free of charge.

How do I submit a paper or presentation?

Successful submissions have been notified in September.

Will certificates be provided?

Yes. Certificates of participation and presentation will be issued after the event.

Can I attend multiple parallel sessions?

Yes, but each session runs simultaneously. You may choose one per time slot.

Will the event be livestreamed or recorded?

No, but the event will be documented for posterity.
